Cover: The picture on our cover illustrates a resourceful, new way to brace flatcar loads that railroads don't handle every day. You're looking at a 72,000-pound dragline excavator camshaft shipped recently by the Bucyrus-Erie Co. from South Milwaukee, Wis., to Evansville, Ind., as it was ready to move from our Lake station on a low bed trailer. Inspecting the shipment, unusual for a trailer-on-flatcar movement, are D. l. Crittenden, our assistant district manager-sales at Milwaukee (left), and Arthur Kroencke, Bucyrus-Erie's traffic manager.

Cover: Construction scene at Natural Corral Coulee as a rock drill makes headway On our company's new 6.4-mile branch line extending from the main line to a point near Royal City, Wash., in the Columbia Basin. The engineering task required building the track around the coulee on an 80-foot-high fill. The line, which will serve the fertile Royal Slope area now under irrigation, was scheduled to be dedicated on June 10 in a ceremony attended by dignitaries from the State of Washington.

Cover: On a clear day, this is the exciting view of the construction boom along the Chicago River adjacent to the Union Station, which is paving the way for skyscraper development. Immediately north of the concourse building, seen here on the west bank, is the second 20-story Riverside Plaza building of the $100 million Gateway Center office and shop complex being constructed by Tishman, Inc., on air rights over the station tracks. Plans anticipate a third building to the south. The aerial survey is from the files of our company's real estate and industrial development department.
