Climbing up the west side or the Bitterroot Mountains of Idaho with 5800 tons of freight behind them, two of the Milwaukee's "Little Joe" electric locomotives. The picture was taken by Barry Kirk, asst. electrical engineer with headquarters in Seattle. The scene is at the 302-foot-high Clear Creek Bridge 14 miles east of Avery, Idaho. "Joes", of which the Road has an even dozen, develop from 5000 to 5500 horsepower, depending on the line voltage used.

VVhen the wheat harvest starts in the American West, it virtually pours to market, as symbolized by this month's front cover picture. Taken at the height of' the huge wheat movement in August the picture shows a Milwaukee Road car being unloaded at the Port of Tacoma by the Port's railroad car unloader, which tips a car at a sharp angle and makes quick work of' getting 60 tons of wheat out of the car and into the elevator.
